I do not understand this trade on multiple levels

Significant amount of salary has to be retained for this to work

Even with the salary retention why is LA doing this?

What in the f..

Cash or Czech?

They luck out and get rid of Richards, just to bring in Lecavalier. Makes no sense to me.

The article from NHL.com says Lecavalier's agent said that Vinny intends to retire at the end of this season.

Am I the only one who didn't know Lecavalier was still playing?

Nope. He's just that washed up.

Yet somehow the Kings are going to make chicken salad out of chicken shit with this deal and get real play out of both these guys.

They needed a D man. Both expiring contracts in Lecavalier and Schenn. What's the problem? Is Weal a real prospect? I really don't know.

not sure what to make of this either but you just get the sense we're going to see a lot of activity prior to the trade deadline this year.

I think it's a great trade for LA. Vinny is retiring at the end of the year and is looking for one last chance and a fresh start. It's not like they gave up a roster player or anything.

Vinny basically steps into the same role Richards played for them last year. Bigger body, too. For the Kings, who still play that plodding style where size matters, he's actually a good fit. Or at least, LA is the best possible fit for him as a player at this point in his career. Factor in the fact he's retiring at the end of the year, foregoing the final two years of his deal, and that LA won't face any recapture for it and it's actually not terrible. Not for what they gave up. Weal projects as a bottom-6 center.

Lecavalier has probably had one of the deepest drop offs out of any player that's tried to hang on too long.

And he's not even all that old. He's been a total non-factor in Philly.

Good trade for Philly too. They clear cap space, clear up some of there muddled defense, and get back a player and a pick.

I don't think he's as bad.

Lebrun writes that Philly retained half of the salary of both Lecavalier and Schenn.
