Who else really dislikes this voting format?

https://allstarvote.nhl.com/

Having to choose one person from each division for one ballot.

Seems like all of CBJ is trending for our division.

------------------------------------------------------------

As for the Three-on-Three format, I think it'd be exciting but very tiring for the players and goalies as well. Goalies are gonna face A LOT of shots most likely and get an actual workout.

My only complain about 3-on-3 is that it doesn't feel like real hockey to me.

Doesn't matter, it's the all-star game - it was never real hockey to begin with.

As for this voting; it's for the captains of each team. Not sure what that means, but I'd expect them to have some sort of role during the game, so I'm picking the most entertaining people/most likely to get drunk:

Subban, Ovechkin, Seguin, Burns

I should have done a better job reading literally the first things on the page. I didn't realize it was Captains. And I can't bring myself to vote for Subban, hate his guts.

And yeah, I get you, all-star game is supposed to be entertaining so I'm all for 3-on-3, but that comment represented more my feelings of 3-on-3 generally, and not just as an all-star game thing.

Ovechkin is always entertaining at an all-star game and you can tell he came there to just give no fucks and have fun. It's amazing seeing someone so competitive like that when everyone's together.

In a move reminiscent to the “Vote For Rory” campaign of eight years ago, Arizona Coyotes forward John Scott — who has one assist in 38 minutes of ice time this year — is looking down at Alexander Ovechkin, Patrick Kane and Jaromir Jagr atop the NHL All-Star perch.

https://nbcprohockeytalk.files.wordpress.com/2015/12/nhl-all-star-e1449081241613.png?w=1200&h=684

If you’re wondering how this happened, it all started on the Puck Daddy/Marek vs. Wyshynski podcast. Then Reddit got involved. Not long after, getting John Scott into the All-Star Game became the kind of viral sensation the Internet hasn’t seen since keyboard cat.

It's too bad John Scott is such a goon, or it would actually be funny if he was voted in. Guy has no place in the league. It would be a lot better if someone like Tanner Glass was in the running.

John Scott got voted in as a captain for the All-Star game, as did Jagr. I wonder if they would get fined for not participating as both of them said they did not want to, similar to when Crosby did not participate "due to injury".

At least they picked two serious ones in Ovechkin and Kane.

Have no problem with the Jagr pick. Guy is a living legend and is having a hell of a season for a guy his age.

I'd take it a step further and say he should be voted in as captain.

Of all the players in the NHL worthy of all star consideration, he has the most experience.

Hardest shot? A guy that big should be able to get some serious torque..

Or maybe just put him in the style shootout, and he can knockout the goalie.

Also, here are the 2016 ASG Jerseys:

But in the big picture, McD is just a better player

They should put him in the fastest skater just to show how fast NHLers are by comparison, using Scott as a stand-in for a regular person.

It's more embarrassing than when Montreal stuffed the ballots. Then people wonder why others don't take the sport seriously.

Vote a goon into the ASG...But don't get the wrong idea that hockey is just boxing on skates!

The other side of me thinks that it's awesome and shows the fun side, and personality, and then reality kicks in.

Did you guys hear about the changes to the voting coming next season? And it's probably because of John Scott.

Next season they're going to alter the captain voting, either to half of it being fans voting and half NHL staff or GMs or whomever (not entirely sure who it was), or the fans will be provided a list of candidates to vote from for Captain.

Sorry guys, I can't seem to find the source, it was a video I watched either on Sportsnet or NHL.com, I'll edit in source when I find it.

It's absolutely because of John Scott. Funny as that whole thing was, it's a massive embarassment for the league. I don't blame them one bit for instituting change on that policy so this can't happen again.

Speculation is that the voting in of enforcer John Scott prompted the NHL to re-evaluate the voting process.
For sure it was because of him, they're just not going to admit it. Personally, I'd prefer being given a list than fan votes counting for only a portion.

Also, found the article/video:

The Arizona Coyotes made the 2016 All-Star Game interesting on Wednesday, sending All-Star forward John Scott to the American Hockey League.

reports suggest the Coyotes are expected to make more roster moves and bring John Scott, NHL All-Star, back to the team in a few days.

Phil in Absentia

Ovechkin sitting out the ASG

Alex Ovechkin will miss the NHL all-star game due to a nagging lower-body injury, the Washington Capitals announced after Wednesday’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.

The league’s rules are that the consequence for missing an all-star game is missing the game before or the game after it, so Ovechkin won’t play when the Capitals face the Florida Panthers on Feb. 2.

I don't see how its an embarrassment. The NHL, and really all pro leagues, take the All Star game way too seriously. No one cares about these things so you may as well just have a little fun with it.
