Oof, and he's 28. Kreider just smiled really fucking big.

Kreider is 24. This is a comparable if, and only if, the Rangers go long term and buy UFA years.

But if they do, this baselines his ask.

If we can get Kreider on this deal I would be happy. Thats a good cap hit for 7 years, and it also makes it a moveable contract if need be.

It took Abdelkder till 28 to reach the same yearly production as Kreider at 24. Yes, I was talking about a long term deal that buys UFA years, but I think this sets Kreider's deal (assuming he can improve on his early slump this year as he did last year) in the $5M range on a similar 7 year deal. I think we're going to see the switch now where RFA years from 25-27 are more costly than UFA years from 32+. If teams don't pony up for these prime years, players will just force their way to UFA status at 27 to cash in on their best years. Signing Kreider from 25-32 will be seen as more valuable than Abdelkder from 28-35.

Well, no. It took Abdelkader until 28 to match the actual output, but his P/GP production has been fairly steady for the last four years (an average just shy of 0.5 P/GP).

I agree on everything else though, and I've been banging the $5M Kreider drum since the summer.

If you can get Kreider at this hit at 24, rather than 28, like NYR2711 said, it would be ideal. Younger, more room to grow and a higher ceiling for Kreider than Akdelkader. And that's not taking anything away from Justin, he's a solid player.

That is a guy I always thought would look really good on this roster. Super versatile player.

Agreed. He loves getting to the net anyway possible, I love players like that. He'd be a perfect fit, especially for the PP.

There's no better illustration of the difference between "guy I like watching" and "guy I'd want my team investing in" than Abdelkader.
