Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith had surgery Tuesday to repair a right meniscal tear and will miss 4-6 weeks, the team announced.

Keith has two assists in six games this season while ranking 17th in the NHL in average ice time at 24:21 per game.

Really hurts for the Hawks.

Their blue line gets even thinner. Wonder if they call up Ville Pokka now?

Maybe, but clearly you've read 30 Thoughts. So there's also a trade possibility:

9. It’s been reported Chicago is also looking for a defenceman, but that doesn’t sound like an easy move with all of their cap issues.

When I mentioned that to another executive, he wondered when the club would call up Ville Pokka, who’s getting closer to being ready for full-time duty. He added he’d heard another club had asked about Pokka in a trade, but was rejected. Can’t figure out for the life of me who that is, though.

I did read 30 thoughts, but that's not why I asked about Pokka. 30 thoughts was written and published before this Keith injury.

They were thinking about calling him up, apparently, before this. What choice do they have now, even with Cumiskey signed? Their blue line is shallow as can be. Unless they call up Cumiskey, that is?

They have six to work with (Seabrook, Hjalmarsson, Daley, TvR, Runblad and Svedberg), but what that really says is that they have three NHL competent defenders two barely NHL defenders and a rookie.
