:tweet: @NHLbyMatty: It appears Andrew Ference giving up C in edm. Betting is only A's for three or four guys. No new captain. #EJLIve

:tweet: @dantencer: Taking the "C" off Ference (or him giving it back) is the right move. Deeper role guy can have it, but not if he's in and out of the lineup.

:tweet: @FriedgeHNIC: Announcement coming shortly in Edmonton, likely re: the captaincy.

My guess is same as above. They'll go three A's until a sure-fire captian comes about in the coming years.

Has his game declined so far that he's not going to be a regular in their lineup? They don't have many NHL-level guys really chasing his spot. Gryba, really?

So doing some research, per the Oilers line combination feature on their site (an incredibly cool tool every team should use), Ference is bottom pairing with Reinhart and Davidson fighting for time.

This article from over the summer gives some interesting insight.

As far as Andrew Ference knows, he'll be the Edmonton Oilers captain again this season. If he's not, he knows who it should be, but he's not saying.

"It's not like I'm going to give you a list, but I definitely know who I'd pick," Ference told the Edmonton Journal on Monday. "It's not my anointment.

Per various accounts including Oilers twitter, Hall, Eberle, Nugent-Hopkins and Ference will all wear A's.

Taylor Hall almost has to be the guy that Ference was referring to.

Why?

Why?

Yea. Curious as to why he would think that?

I mean, he's pretty much been pegged as their next captain for a long time, wore the A for the last two years, I think. Taken McDavid under his wing as well.

That's also what I've heard. Very 'Me First' attitude. Not exactly captain material.

Maybe he was like that when he was 19, but he's 23 now, with 5 years in the league... I'm sure he's grown up a bit, especially if Ference is willing to vouch for him as captain.

Plus, being a "douche" doesn't preclude someone from being a captain, or a good one. If it did, can someone please explain this?

Ne, he's like this now, and we don't know that Ference vouched for him.

Well, know one really knows who's a good captain or not. And Doan is pretty much the salt of the earth. He doesn't even curse.

Additionally, no one said they wouldn't make Hall captain. We just said he was a douche.

No, of course. I'm just saying that even if he is, that won't preclude the Oilers from naming him captain, or preclude him from maybe even being a good one.

Crosby was probably the biggest cunt in the league, especially the first year he was named captain. Even major media members believed that and spoke about it, but it didn't stop the Pens from naming him captian anyway, and I doubt they have plans to tear it off him any time soon. Frankly, he probably grew into the role despite maybe getting it before he really should have. Maybe the same happens for Hall?
