Nah, but seriously, LGR!

By the season's end we'll have seen more than enough of the Devils and Islanders -- I'd sooner spend ticket money on a Detroit game than Jersey, don't get to see Pavel Ducksoup Dynasty and Henrik Zetterberg and the rest of the Swedish national team/Europe All-Stars too often…but that may be just me :bravery:

So Kostka stays in?

LOL how can they think he's a better option ffs? At least if McIlrath makes a mistake you can blame his inexperience. When Kostka fucks up it's because he's just bad.

Damn it.

I mean, the difference between them is pretty negligible, no? Neither showed much in the game against the Blues.

I'm no Kostka fan either, but the choice between them isn't really much of a choice.

Maybe it's to put him in the skybox to watch the game? Also, if it comes down to playing a rook vs. a vet, AV plays the vet most of the time.

You're probably right. I still find it a bonehead move at this point. I can't recall the last time Kostka has done anything good. Every time I notice him he's involved in a goal against :palm:

Yeah, not great either way, but Kostka is an effing train wreck. That play on the Tarasenko goal was embarrassing. With that being said, McIlrath was beat and needed to play Tarasenko's stick. Not showing great instinct there.

I actually don't blame McIlrath that much for the Tarasenko goal. More Kostka than McIlrath, but he didn't have a strong game outside that play either. He was trucked a few times, and ended up taking a pretty awful penalty just a few minutes after the Tarasenko goal, if my memory serves.

He just looked slow, where as Kost-ya (all pun intended) has more speed, but none of the brains.

It's like choosing between getting punched in the left nut or the right.

My one gripe with removing McI is that I don't want him on the edge. I'd rather him get a chance to recover from a bad first game. He may have a lot to learn yet, but at least let him rebound.

Frankly, he should PK this time. Someone's got to move Franzen's giant ass from the net on the powerplay.

jjweimar
11-05-2014, 12:28 PM
The ONLY advantage to having Kostka play over McI is the fact that he is a better skater and Detroit can move, they don't play a physical game so that's my only logic.

11-05-2014, 01:06 PM
really i didn't see much from McIlrath....it's like we all suspected but hoped wouldn't be the case...he just doesn't look like he's got what it takes...and his problems isn't something he can work on in the AHL either imo...he's just not good enough for this level of play....i don't know...i WANT him to make it but the more i see him the less i think it's possible.

I disagree, there is also the advantage of not displaying McIlraths deficiencies so much and instead send him down and put together a trade where he might be part of the package. He still has SOME value, but if he continues the way he has at the NHL level it will be gone very soon.
There's also stop seeing him as making it soon and just sending him down to the AHL for the next 2-3 years and see what happens. Either he makes it or he doesn't and just cut our losses.

This is what annoys me, just like the St. Louis game. Our offense looks terrific, generates all kinds of chances, and their goalie makes a few huge saves and boom: they're alive. Meanwhile, the first weak garbage that Cleary throws on net goes in. An elite offense buries these chances early. Game should've been 3-0 at the end of the first. Until there's more finish to all these plays, we're not much but great playmakers.

Was at this game - one of the most dull hockey games I've ever seen. Both teams just played so...slow...

Was great to see the powerplay work finally though and the new Garden is gorgeous. I think Hunwick is definitely a stud and Nash is playing like the best forward we've had in years. He scored a lucky goal this game but the only reason he scored it is because he's probably at the top of the list of people you don't want standing in front of your net in the league. And that's where he's been all year.

I gotta say, even while the team is still gelling, these games are immensely entertaining. The St. Louis one had some spectacular goaltending and goals scored (some of those passes were unreal). This game had two high-powered Original Six teams going blow for blow. First period all Rangers, then all Wings for a while, and then a super-fun blow for blow offensive attack game in the final 10 minutes.

I can remember a time, as recently as 2 years ago, where I could barely stay awake even though we were winning often. Now our games are so exciting sometimes I find myself wishing it would slow down/settle down. I get nervous about keeping a lead with our style, and apparently rightfully so. Still, it's a ton of fun, and winning while doing it is great. I can't remember the last time the Rangers have been an exciting offensive team that wins games. Love the roster composition.

“It’s just an honor and a privilege to be able to coach in this league,” he said. “Nine hundred is, if you think about it, a lot of hockey games. I hope to keep coaching a few more.”
