View Full Version : Injury Report: McDonagh Out 3-4 Weeks with Shoulder Separation; Soon to Begin Skating Again

:tweet: @NYP_Brooksie: McDonagh left shoulder separation...Klein foot contusion...will not return...both will be re-evaluated tomorrow...

:tweet: @stevezipay: Both McDonagh and Klein will have MRIs tomorrow. AV says they'll make decision from there.

--

Shoulder separations can be anywhere from two weeks to two months depending on severity. Here's to hoping like hell it's the former.

It's gotta be Allen. I think the org. has given up on McIlrath

edit: Maybe even Bodie? He's a freaking rail though... 6' and 165lbs.

Well, McIlrath is a righty. Gotta think they will want to have another righty just in case they move Kostka out of lineup. Both Allen and Bodie have had nice offensive starts, but yeah Bodie is small. Great skater, very elusive, but is a risk to get pancaked.

:tweet: @rangersreport: McDonagh and Klein will both have MRIs Sunday. At least one defenseman will have to be called up, probably two.

I'd imagine if Klein is going for an MRI as well (even though it's precautionary, and standard operating procedure), he's out for Monday against the Blues as well, which means it's probably two.

McD is going to be out for a few weeks at least. Just have to hope Klein isn't too serious.

Same injury twice within a year, thats not good long term. I hope this isn't a regular thing for him, makes me very sad in the pants.

Hopefully McD won't need surgery. Thats the same shoulder as last season. Either way, we are now down 3 quality defenders. I didn't realize how slow Kostka actually was until last night, wow.

You can pretty much bank on the shoulder injury recurring for the rest of his career unless he gets surgery at some point.

Pete

And even surgery likely won't stop it from recurring.

Allen looked good last season for those few games he played so I think he will definitely get a nod despite the not so good camp.

DZ was a duster...and I was never really a big fan of Stralman.

But we're talking about a handful of games here. I don't think anybody is going to miss them once everybody returns from injury.

Please stop. DZ has more career points than Hunwick and Kostka combined, in less games played than both of them combined.

I understand he had his issues and has since moved on, but please stop acting like he's not an NHL caliber defenseman in a league where Andre Benoit sees a regular shift.

Oh, and Stralman has 9 points in 12 games, +13 on the top pair in Tampa. Yea, we don't miss him at all.

They're actually both playing very well. The Flyers (along with the Rangers) are near the bottom of the league in GA, and DZ is just a -1 in a group of sub par dmen, and logging over 20 minutes a game. Stralman has been a horse for TB.

Stop what? I never said Hunwick and Kostka are good.

I still don't miss either of those other guys. Would I hate if Stralman was here? No. Do I miss him? No.

But lets pump the brakes on him a bit, he's playing with a great defenseman in Hedman and is seeing lots of minutes with the likes of Stamkos. And, not for nothing, they haven't exactly had a tough schedule.

Actually Hedman has only played half of TB's games. Maybe it's just that Stralman is a little better than he gets credit for? And he doesn't play every shift with Stamkos, that's a thin argument if I ever heard one.

I just don't see how it's possible not to miss him when it's so clear the team does, Staal especially. We're dressing 4 AHL players and you don't miss a guy who can play 22:00 and be a plus player?

I find that extremely odd.

Just because, I went through the Tampa game logs. Stralman has no points on any of Stamkos' goals, Stamkos didn't have an assist on Stralman's goal and Stamkos and Stralman have no shared points (ie, they didn't both assist on a third party's goal).

Ryan McDonagh on target to return to Rangers in two weeks

McDonagh, who was averaging 23:33 minutes per game and had three assists in 10 games, will have to practice in a non-contact jersey and then be cleared for contact. So he likely will miss another three or four games. It's possible that he could return in the back-to-backs against the Flyers on Nov. 28 and Nov. 29.

Oh yeah. At this point I'm going to consider his season a success if he manages to not re-injure it.

His awful start coupled with this injury is the most disappointing story of the year for me.

Really wanted him to solidify his spot in that upper echelon, but it's not happening any time soon.

I couldn't care less if he gets Norris consideration or not this year, as long as he's 100% healthy for the playoffs. McDonaj is the engine of this team.

I think it's moreso Hunwick looking not as good. When we were in real dire straits, Hunwick was fantastic. But lately, he's looked like a 7th D and downright bad at times.

Same with John Moore.

Long story short, they both suck.

2 more expansion teams and defencemen of the quality needed to play at this level will be exhausted on this planet.

Ranger Lothbrok
11-25-2014, 08:56 PM
Yeah, whenever they think he's ready and the doctors clear him to play in full, I'd hold him out an additional week after that. We've had an up and down start, but we're not so bad off that we need to rush back arguably our best skater. As many have said, shoulder separations are a damned tricky thing. You want to handle these injuries with kid gloves.
