No penalty?!? SHOCKER

Right non-call. As a D, you are taught from youth never to turn from hits last second like that. It wasn't boarding. It was a regular, hard hockey check that McDonagh put himself into a vulnerable position over by twisting away from contact at the last second. It's his own fault.

Unless McDonagh is out long-term, with Boyle due back in a couple weeks or so, you probably just ride it out with a call-up of Allen and/or McIlrath (depending on if Klein is also out long-term).

I think a shot was the better option there for Hayes. Stempniak being a right-handed shot got in too close and should have stayed back a few more feet. That way he could have received the pass on his forehand without risking the d-man picking off the pass. A pass would have been a better option for Hayes if that was a left-handed shot with him on the break.

Separated shoulder for Mac and contusion on ankle for Klein. Sucks

He has a foot contusion. We have no idea if his ankle is broken or not.

Contusion is a fancy term for bad bruise.

Not at all. A separated shoulder is anywhere from two weeks to two months (or in rare cases, longer).

Watch Stepan come back as a face off master. He's probably spent the last few weeks with a face off guru teaching him the art of the backhand face off.

I believe the last season they did it was JD's last year, but I can't be sure. Still, it was cool and they should have continued it. It was entertaining, especially in years the Rangers weren't so entertaining.

We'll know tomorrow. Contusions are fancy terms for bad bruises, so it's tough to say. They have to make sure nothing is broken, and at that point it's about pain management. As someone who has suffered a lower-back contusion, I can tell you right now, they are agonizing.

All things considered, I really can't complain about this game. The four remaining defensemen played solid as a unit, including Kostka, who played over 20 minutes himself. In terms of offense, there were several shots that should have been buried, but Pavelec played a great game.

Myusername

We really had no choice considering the $$ Callahan was seeking, but honestly, I think I'd rather have Callahan at this point. At least when Callahan wasn't producing he was hitting everything that moved and did lead by example. Not sure St. Louis is doing either at this point.

The guy is sadly an afterthought to me right now. He does make the nice play every now and then, but I don't really see him as a guy I would rely on to help win a game at this point. He's kind of just "there"

It was reported the sticking point was a NMC. So I'd think that would mean he didn't want to leave. Or probably more correctly he wanted his family to have stability.

Just not like MSL to be this brutal. I just have no confidence in the guy at this point, and won't until he begins playing like the star player he is. He had several chances last night and his decisions on those quality chances were just brutal.

He tried to surprise Pavelec on the breakaway in the 2nd and was stopped. Then did the same thing in the shootout.

He's also playing with substantially better offensive players in Tampa (Filppula and Stamkos), and not being asked to sacrifice his body the way he was here. He's still a physical force, obviously, but is in more of a scoring role with better offensive players with the Lightning. It's a good fit for him, even if the price tag is ugly.

Well Tampa only played 4 games, so that's kind of moot.

I'm not a Callafan, and I didn't want to pay him what he got, but when you add in MSL's lack of production and the picks we gave up...Can't see how we won that trade.
