That's unfortunate. Really thought he played well enough to earn a spot on this team. I have a feeling someone will claim him, he's definitely of value.

Too bad. He was noticeable every game that he played.

Cash or Czech?

He played way better than Stempniak, IMO.

Interesting that Bernier is on there. He was a pretty big piece of that line that caused us such trouble two years ago.

Got to make room for Duclair, need to move a contract

Agreed. Seems like a versatile lower line player that would have made more sense for the teams needs. I'd rather see him killing penalties, than Nash or other top line players.

With Duclair making the roster, I think Stempniak become pretty much not needed. Then again its insurance I guess.

So, the forwards currently are:

Nash, St. Louis, Kreider, Hagelin, Brassard, Zuccarello, Moore, Glass, Duclair, Miller, Hayes, Malone, Fast, Stempniak.

Have to imagine if Miller struggles out of the gate, Hayes takes his place. Same goes for Stempniak, with Malone probably taking his.

Personally, it looked like Miller and Malone had some chemistry going in preseason. It was a small sample size, but I wouldn't hate seeing them be given a look.

They're down to 23 now, with Stepan on LTIR and Hayes likely to be placed on IR (per Hartnett).

Opening night will have Nash, St. Louis, Kreider, Hagelin, Brassard, Zuccarello, Moore, Glass, Duclair, Miller, Malone, Fast, Stempniak (with one forward sitting).

I'd have to imagine at this point that forward will be Malone.

For opening night? Yeah, maybe. I mean, he, Fast and Stempniak all stand a pretty equal chance of being a healthy scratch IMO.

We play the Blues, who have some decent size, so Malone might be of more use in combatting that than Fast or Stempniak.

I don't see how Stempniak makes it over Malone.

I'd imagine Hayes plays, then. MSL at center wasn't a successful experiment.

I missed something, what happened to Hayes?

Minor shoulder injury, according to Hartnett. Was skating in a non-contact jersey a couple days ago. Apparently it isn't enough to put him on IR, though, and he'll travel with the team to St. Louis (again according to Hartnett).

Malone should be on this team over Stemp, no reason for him not to be.

At this point, I agree. I think Malone adds some much needed size. That being said, though he didn't impress in camp, I'm still not ready to wave the white flag on Stempniak being able to help this team. I think he can prove valuable eventually.

Yeah, me neither. He had a great camp and seems to be a great net presence in front on the PP.

His hip was a bit tender. Maybe there just bringing him along slowly.
