"Show me something" contract.

Most likely. There was talk they were discussing a two-year deal, but my bet is Moore's camp wanted arbitration rights as quickly as possible.

This effectively ends any shot McIlrath or Alan had of making the team out of camp.

Why would you say that? He's a 3rd pairing defensemen. As far as I'm concerned there's a spot open there.

This isn't true, and what did you expect them to do here — not sign an RFA who lacks arbitration rights simply to give a spot to McIlrath or Allen?

We really don't know what they intend to do to start the year. Not before camp.

No, not at all. In fact, I was hoping they'd resign him. But factor this move in with the other guys they bought in, one who certainly will be the 7th D and it doesn't look like the team thinks either McIlrath or Alan are there yet. Which is fine.

my take is that he is now a hold the fort guy. 1 year, low contract. he out performs it we talk about a bump, if not sayonara. in the meantime the kids get one more year of seasoning.

this team is going to look vastly different next year imho.

d stands for depth.
what do we have, like 6-7 nhlers and 3-4 ahlers who can move up if needed?

He'll still be an RFA after this deal. I actually hope he forces us to pay him. Means he developed.

agreed. nothing better than glen having to make some tough decisions next year due to our depth.
