Williams spent the last six seasons in charge of video as an assistant coach with the Canucks, working under Vigneault until the head coach’s swap with John Tortorella and then for one disastrous season under the former Rangers boss.

In New York, Williams will take over Lacroix’s responsibility of watching games from a bird’s eye view, typically from the press box, and returning to the locker room at intermissions to provide Vigneault and the rest of the staff with a different perspective. Williams will not take over the Rangers’ video responsibilities, however. That will continue to be the realm of video coach Jerry Dineen.

Essentially, Lacroix received a promotion on the Canadiens’ staff from press box to bench, and Williams is taking a step up with the Rangers from the video room to the press box.
