love that deal.

honestly, in my armchair GM boredom on capgeek earlier in the offseason, trying to work out a roster, I had Kreider pegged for around 3.5

So how much is left for brassard?

That's great work by both sides to avoid arbitration and come up with a fair bridge deal. Kreider gets $5M for the next two seasons and a huge incentive to compete hard to get a big deal on his next contract.

For the salary questions, assuming these roster players:

Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Stempniak - Brassard $? - MZA
Hagelin - Miller - MSL
Glass - Moore - Lombardi
Fast

McDonagh - Girardi
Staal - Boyle
Moore $? - Klein
Kostka

Hank / Talbot

We have $6.6M remaining in cap space to sign Brassard and Moore.

That's about where I have it estimated, and I think it's enough. I see Brassard at like $4.9M to $5.1M on a four or five-year extension and Moore (John) at $1.5M for two years. Combined, that's roughly the $6.6M we're working with, give or take.

what satisfies me the most with this deal, the mza deal and the boyle deal is that all these guys WANT to be here. you cannot put a premium on something like that. We might not be as good as the sum of our parts last year but it should make for a spirited camp with a lot of competition and most importantly not having an urgency to rush the kids.

Not to really beat the dead horse here, but Boyle didn't really take significantly less to be here, per year. Kreider was restricted, and this is pretty much where he should be at, salary wise. Good on him to avoid arbitration, though.

MZA is the one who really took less than what he could have gotten on the market, or in arbitration.

But overall, it does show that there is at least a little bit of an incentive to be willing to take a bit less to be here. It hasn't been this way in a decade.

Love it.
Now, if only Brassard would sign a low deal too, so we have some money left after signing him and Moore.

IMO, Brassard still hasn't earned that big of a contract. He hasn't hit the 20 goal mark yet, and Id like to see more from him, and see what he is gonna do with a new line this year. I just can't see paying him $5M yet.

I'm thinking Brassard is going to get 4.3m-4.5m on a two year deal.
