Assets: Has good size for the blueline position. Is a decent puck-mover who limits his mistakes when on the ice. Can be used on the power play at lower levels.

Flaws: Could stand to improve his decision-making with the puck in order to maximize his NHL skills. Isn't a very physical defender, despite good size.

Career Potential: Journeyman puck-moving defenseman with a little upside.

He played for the Leafs, so he definitely didn't take an elbow to the head in the playoffs.

Depth signing, I think.

Interesting signing. A depth guy. Has offensive tools, but never "earns" a regular spot.

lol...i could have fucking sworn...maybe it wasn't in the playoffs. he was on chicago earlier in the season, no?

He was in Toronto a few years ago. He was in Tampa last season. Twin of Gudas.

Diaz's replacement as a depth guy. Provides good competition for Conor Allen and McIlrath next year.

They don't sign this guy if McI is ready, IMO.

I'm thinking team expectations are lower for Mcilrath then we thought.

If this does turn out to be true, thats really not good.

Solid depth signing. I guess AV didn't like Diaz or Diaz wants to much money. Either way its fine prob this years version of Falk

Kostka is actually surprisingly decent - I think (given the opportunity) he'll surprise a few of you.

Compared to Diaz, I like him a lot more. I also think that he fits the AV scheme more than a Klein, who I hope they move.

He may or may not be ready, but I don't see how this signing reflects on that. Kostka is being signed to basically be a healthy scratch ala Falk. McIlrath will be playing wherever he is, whether it's NHL or AHL and Kostka will be in the press box either way.

What will tell us whether or not they think McIlrath is ready will be whether or not they trade Klein.

Yes, had a spell wight he Lightning recently where he put up some interesting numbers for a dman

19 2 6 8 +7

we have enough forwards who can't manage .42+ scoring, let alone dmen.

Don't know how much I agree with that, but we'll see.

I think at this price this is a VERY good signing, this guy isn't as bad as some thinks, think he could do pretty well in AV's system tbh. Will most likely be a reserve a la Diaz but could see more ice time if things go well imo.

Kostka can play forward as well so it could potentially save us money if we want to carry him as our only spare. Can't keep Fast or Lindberg as a spare anyway.

Who thinks the signing is bad? its 1 year for 650,000, how can it be bad?
