Stayed at Mandalay bay a few years back. It's kinda in the middle of the pack price wise but it's a very nice place. Not sure how close it is to the convention center (although now that I'm typing it I think it's either connected to the hotel or really close) but it's right near the airport

Depends on what you're looking for.... Treasure Island and Circus Circus are usually the cheapest casino hotels on the strip (Palms and Stratosphere aren't worth the hassle of taxis IMO). I like the sports books at the MGM/Mandalay Bay end of the strip (opposite end). Motel 6 just a couple of blocks from the strip is most affordable. Bunch of hotels a couple blocks off strip you can choose from. If money were no object I'd look at Bellagio, Paris, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, or MGM.

The Luxor was 815 a piece including flight for 6 days. I thought that was a decent deal

Friends or Family?

Cost matter?

Bellagio and Caesars are my recommendations. Not the most expensive but very nice.

But you could spend even less staying at Monte Carlo or Treasure Island.

Vegas hotels are like dorm rooms. Which crowd do you want to be around?

Get a list of a few places that interest you. Then, look up their pools, restaurants (will you always be dining out or want some fast food late at night?) and any specials or extras.

Anything you really want to do that should influence where you stay?

NOS pretty much summed it up well.

20 years ago I use to stay at Lexor.

Now that i'm older I stay at Ceasars, Bellagio, Venetian, or Paris.

Stayed at the Hard Rock once, (off the strip)....definitely 21-25 crowd.

Going with friends but not sharing a room with them. I would be staying with my bf. We're going for SEMA so it needs to be semi close to the Convention Center. The show is only 3-4 of the 7 days we're going though.

I was looking and the prices changed a little today. It's $850 for the MGM Grand for 6 nights including flight. Any opinions on that place?

Cost wise I would ideally like to keep it under 950-1k each.

I'm drawing a blank with MGM. Means it wasn't amazing and wasn't horrible.

Also, I looked up where the convention center is... check to see if any shuttles go to it. It's off the strip, and unless you are on the north end, you'll probably want transportation over there.

Check out their pools and fast food joints. You rarely, if ever, use pools of other hotels. Check to see if you like the fast dining options they offer, so when you are drunk at 3am, or awake at 7am (10am EST) you have a place to grab a snack to hold you over. Don't worry about shops, casino, etc. You'll get enough of that when you explore. And seriously, explore everything. Each hotel has so much to offer with free little shows and entertainment. Hell, our favorite gambling spot is Bill's and that place is a dump.

Really, with the hotels you're looking at you can't go wrong unless you've got issues getting to SEMA. And there's always taxis. There are a lot of good times in Vegas and it's all in your attitude and the people you're with. Better people = more fun.

I did a LOT of research when I thought I was going to Vegas this past spring. Based on that research, I highly highly recommend looking into the Elara. Also, give the front desk at any hotel in Vegas, especially this one, a "sandwich" as they call it. This means just slip them a 20 or even a 50 and expect a nice upgrade.

Isn't that risky? Seems like a sure way to throw away money.

Nah. Very high chance they'll upgrade you. Lots of stories of upgrades from 1BR suites to 2 or 3 BR suites. 3BR suite becomes a penthouse, etc. And if they can't swing it, they'll turn the money down or give it back. At the very least you'll get an upgraded view, which alone is worth the 50 dollars split between x amount of people for x amount of nights. Very low risk of them pocketing the 50 and telling you to go fuck yourself.

They'll either say they can't accept it or they'll take it and do something for you.
